Trains from Davenport run to Stockport and Manchester, but there are many other travel opportunities available. Many trains also serve stations to Blackpool North, and in the other direction an hourly service runs to Buxton in the heart of the Peak District.
This page is dedicated to encouraging the people of Davenport to make more use of their trains, by publicising places and events which can be reached, and telling of the various good-value tickets available.
Much more information will appear here as the site develops, but let's start with a mention of:
The Wayfarer Ticket - GMPTE Information page
The Wayfarer is a 'scratchcard' ticket which can bought from Davenport station and kept until needed, as you validate it yourself for the day you need it by scratching off the date in lottery style.
After 9.00 Mondays - Fridays and all day on Weekends and Public Holidays it gives unlimited travel on virtually any train, tram or bus over a huge area encompassing Greater Manchester, The Peak District and rural areas of Cheshire and Lancashire. A one-day ticket for one adult costs £7.50, for the whole weekend £10.00. A group of up to four people, including up to two adults, can get a day ticket for £13, and a day ticket for an adult over 60 or child from 5 to 15 is just £3.75 (April 2004 prices.)
The GMPTE website has a map of the area and much more information.
