Friends of

Davenport Station

This page is the Notice Board for the Friends of Davenport Station group, which this website fully supports.

FoDS is a group of local people who are interested in furthering Davenport Station in its position as both a hub in the Greater Manchester Transport Link, and a hub within the local community.

More people and schools are invited to share in this proposed thriving community and help us obtain and spend available funding from central government and agencies - and others.

The group was established some two years ago but needs people to express their views.

Thursday 23 November, 7:30pm onwards, Davenport Methodist Church, Garners Lane:  ther will be a re-launch meeting for the 'Friends of Davenport Station' group. Everyone is welcome.

Recent doings, Summer 2006 | Proposed events

To date the group has been interested in :-

  • Making easy access available from Bramhall Lane to both platforms at all times.
  • Having the station well lit
  • Having Clear Current Information Displayed
  •  Identifying Repairs and Improvements at the station and car park
  • Eradicating the Japanese Knot Weed plants from the station and car park
  • Maintaining a website

You will see evidence of our breaking through the wall from Bramhall Lane, this has been delayed by what was seen as simple, proving to be more challenging. The breakthrough should be achieved by September 2006

Closed Circuit Television to provide added security at the station is scheduled to be installed before next winter

The waiting room is open each weekday morning on the Manchester platform

A contractor to remove the Japanese Knot Weed has been appointed and the plants should be treated this summer

Work on the garden and car park is routinely greatly helped by the Probation Service

Northern Rail have just upgraded the ticket machine within the station to enable Tony to sell a wider range of tickets

Future plans include;-
  • Developing full wheel chair access to both platforms
  • Looking how best to reduce the step from train  to platform
  • Producing an interesting program of events of interest to all members of the Davenport Community.
